Steadfastness

The metaphor of the olive tree is a strong one for the Palestinian people. Not only a symbol of peace and fruitfulness, but of deep rootedness in the terraces of the soil. The roots of olive trees hold the soil in place and prevent erosion. When trees are uprooted the moisture in the soil dries up and the land becomes infertile.

Between 1987 and 1997 Israelis uprooted an estimated 250,000 olive trees

"... and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love" Ephesians 3:17
